Most website owners can view a list of IP addresses that have accessed their site, meaning they know how and when you visited as well as information such as the city you are in. There are ways to prevent your IP address from being public knowledge.
Instructions
Windows
Step 1
Download and install the application Hide IP NG (see Resources).
Step 2
Load the application by double-clicking on its icon from your desktop.
Step 3
Run the web browser you wish to be anonymous with such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. With Internet Explorer you will now be surfing anonymously. If you are using Firefox, click the "Hide IP" text in the bottom right of the browser to enable anonymous surfing.
Mac OS X
Step 1
Download and install the application Tor. While installing Tor, another application called Vidalia will also be installed to your computer. This is the software that you will run in order to be anonymous.
Step 2
Launch the application by double-clicking on the Vidalia icon from your Applications folder, then start Firefox.
Step 3
Click the "Tor disabled" text in the bottom right of the browser until it says "Tor Enabled." All browsing in Firefox will now be anonymous.
Tips & Warnings
- The steps above show you how to hide your IP address to browse the web anonymously. To perform other tasks such as instant messaging or email, you may need to configure the applications further. See the developers' websites for more information.
- None of the information above guarantees anonymity.
From the author of this blog:
"As you can see none of these technologies cannot guarantee anonymity because their owners not sure too ;-)"
"The other way that I will recommend is DON'T loose your time with this staff, just use SmartHide which is easy-to-use and provides GUARANTEED anonymity with its Personal Subscription"
