Using the Internet always seems like an anonymous activity. A million wires, servers and computers are between you and the website that you accessing makes you feel that your browsing activity is untraceable. Unfortunately, this is not true.
Most website owners can view a list of IP addresses that have accessed their site, it means they know how and when as well as information such as the city you are in you visited site. There are several ways to prevent your IP address from being public.
Instructions
Windows
Step 1
Download and install the application Hide IP NG (see Resources).
Step 2
Load the application by double-clicking on its icon from your desktop.
Step 3
Run the web browser you wish to be anonymous with such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. With Internet Explorer you will now be surfing anonymously. If you use Firefox, click the "Hide IP" enable anonymous surfing.
Mac OS X
Step 1
Download and install the application Tor. While installing Tor, another application called Vidalia will also be installed to your computer. This is the software that you will run in order to be anonymous.
Step 2
Launch the application by double-clicking on the Vidalia icon from your Applications folder, then start Firefox.
Step 3
Click the "Tor disabled" text in the bottom right of the browser until it says "Tor Enabled". All browsing in Firefox will now be anonymous.
